Anglesey Trip

Anglesey is a small island off the North-West coast of Wales renowned for being a lovely spot for seabirds, a tourism hotspot and, maybe less known for this bit, one of the safest places in the UK in the event of a Nuclear War. Apocalypses beside, it's a beautiful place that I had last been to many moons ago, so me and my mum decided to have a trip there again. Here are the pictures!

The Plan:

We had booked a hotel in the pretty little village of Menai Bridge, in the South-East of the island. From there, we headed to the isle's opposite end, to a Nature Reserve called South Stack - famous in the UK for being a great spot for Puffins, Choughs, and other rarer coastal birds. Also on the trip, we travelled to the well-named Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the seaside town of Beaumaris, we went through the forests of Pentraeth and Newborough, and finally ended the trip on the Eastern-most point of the island, Penmon Point (home to Puffin Island). It was a wonderful trip, and the weather was spectacular!

South Stack Lighthouse
South Stack Lighthouse. Built in 1809, it was surrounded in a deep mist.
Cliffs
Cliffs from South Stack, jutting out of an azure sea and a ghostly fog, I doubt I'll ever forget the sight of them.
Common Lizard and an Ant
A Common Lizard and an ant atop a stone near South Stack. They were on a path so I nearly stood on them. Pretty irresponsible if you ask me.
Grey Seal
A Grey Seal relaxing in the waves. Some random kid saw it and started yelling that he'd seen a dolphin. Kids these days.
South Stack Lighthouse
South Stack Lighthouse from another angle.
Menai Bridge
The Menai Suspension Bridge. Built in 1826, it is the world's oldest major Suspension Bridge.
Menai Bridge
Menai Suspension Bridge at Night, lit under a Full Moon.
Brittania Bridge
Brittania Bridge, built in 1850 and rebuilt in the 1970s following a fire, it was quite a nice bridge although unfortunately plagued by congestion when we went across it.
Church Island
In Menai Strait lies the idyllic Church Island, home to St Tysillo's Church. St Tysillo was a 7th Century Welsh Bishop and Prince who was born in Powys.
Memorial
A War Memorial to local soldiers who died in WWI and WWII. I counted 71 names.
Long-named place
A sign for Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery- chwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. The name was contrived in 1869 as a publicity stunt, apparently.
Women's Institute
The Women's Institute first met in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery- chwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which I find interesting.
Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris Castle, built in 1330 from the orders of King Edward I.
Penmon Lighthouse
Penmon Lighthouse (or Trwyn Du Lighthouse). A Grade II lighthouse constructed in 1838 and still used today.
Puffin Island
Puffin Island, a place that, despite its eponymousity, had no puffins anywhere near it as far as I could tell. Beautiful place though.
Menai Bridge
Menai Suspension Bridge which we drove over on our way home.
